San Domenico

It's raining in Siena, still trying my hardest to draw daily. I am happy with this one. Black ink and light washes in a toned grey sketchbook.

Back in Italy!!!

After much planning and organizing I am back in Italy (Siena). My stay here will last a few months, so I will be posting as frequently as possible.

Like I mentioned in the last post I am going to post more than just watercolor paintings. So, since its pretty cold and somewhat rainy here I haven't been doing watercolors. I have been doing some drawing with light washes.

I've been trying to think about the light here, and since I'm drawing on toned paper I can pay attention to shadows and then add highlights after which helps a lot. So here are a few drawings. I have a bunch, I'll only post a couple. Thanks for staying tuned soon enough I'll be traveling and drawing/panting new cities and landscapes.

These are some scenes from my everyday walks. The first a view of the Sienese duomo from the main piazza, the second a small alley way and the third a loggia dedicated to Papa Pio II.

I will try to take better photos, I don't have a scanner here, but I'll do my best.
