Castello di Miramare

As if my trip couldn't get any better, I had the chance to visit this beautiful castle on the sea here in Trieste.

The castle was built for Ferdinand Maximilian Habsburg who was the archduke of Austria.

Ancora a Trieste

I'm still in Trieste and I have done minimal artwork. I am very tired and honestly, I am enjoying walking around Trieste with my 35mm camera and taking photos. I will definitely post my photos here after the thirty some odd rolls of my time abroad are developed. In the meantime please enjoy these :

Venezia, una volta di più

Venice is absolutely beautiful. I'm glad I got the opportunity to visit once more. I painted a little, but in all honesty I was much more interested in walking around and drinking in the Venetian atmosphere.

Update

I am here in Bergamo, Italia. I am visiting my family here for the last time before my return to NY. Tomorrow morning I am heading to Venice and soon after to Trieste. I plan on having more work to show but honestly its the end of my time in Italy and I am quite tired. Plus not to mention that the internet situation is less than optimal. I am more than certain that I will have work from Venice and Trieste, but I probably wont be able to upload the photos and the artwork until I am in Siena again. So please feel free to browse through the old posts and keep yourselves entertained. I will be posting as soon as possible, and upon arrival in NY, posting regularly again. Thank you.

Santa Maria Assunta.

Firenze

Artwork has been slowed down due to two reasons. The first is I moved out of my place into a friend's place temporarily, and the second; final exams. All my things are packed and with exams it's tough to draw and paint. Plus there are many things I still want to do. One of these things was pay a final visit to Firenze and spend at least four hours at the Uffizi. I accomplished both as well as spending a nice amount of time at the Museo Nazionale del Bargello. Here are some Firenze highlights: Benvenuto Cellini's Perseus con la testa di Medusa.

And here is a sculpture of Benvenuto Cellini which is part of the Uffizi building.

The Uffizi's collection is one of the most important and certainly most incredible. The Bargello also is packed with important works like both Davids done by Donatello, Verocchio's Donatello and Michelangelo's Bacchus. So I had a nice day of looking at art in the birthplace of the Renaissance. Florence is beautiful, I've visited this city many times but I'm still looking forward to visiting again in the years to come.

I would have posted photos from these museums but it is forbidden to take photos there, and they're very serious about this.

Studying hard

I apologize for the lack of posts lately. In my defense I'm preparing for finals. I've been studying more than drawing or painting. I have an exam tomorrow and one next week. After that I will continue working and I also have two weeks of non-stop traveling.
In the meantime here is a photo of yours truly sketching and drinking coffee in Monteriggioni some weeks ago.

In class, why not.

Even scribbles deserve a little attention sometimes. Here's a scribble of a classmate of mine.

Teatro alla Scala, Milano

I was looking through some of the sketchbooks I have here in Italy with me. I found this one which isn't completed, that I was working on in March.

In this book I was trying to do longer drawings from my reference photos. I have about a dozen of these drawings of Italian buildings I like. Perhaps I'll continue with French and Austrian buildings as well.

Piazza del Campo

This comes courtesy of a new iPhone app. It looks pretty good. It was free so I won't complain.

Spending some time with the Palazzo Pubblico

This is most certainly the highlight of Siena. The Palazzo Pubblico. I've drawn it at least twenty times and I'm sure I've posted at least five or six of those drawings on this blog.

As my time here is almost up I feel like I need to concentrate on this building a little before I leave. The torre and the piazza are very respected and loved here in Italy. So here's a quick sketch of the building that is most beloved and also most difficult to draw (proportions!!!)

Sta. Maria delle Pieve

I visited Arezzo in March. A friend of mine liked the drawing I did of Santa Maria delle Pieve and asked me to do a drawing of it for him.

I've been procrastinating since then so this is a much overdue drawing for a good friend.

Siena and more Siena !

Siena is my home and I love painting her. I've been trying to loosen up a little with the watercolors. Ive also been trying to use a little dry brush. Here are some experiments. This is the Duomo from the other side of the valley:

This is the sanctuary of Santa Caterina, who is the patron saint of Siena and Europe. I have drawn this building before but never so fast and loose.

They are tied to each other in three ways one: the theme of ecclesiastical architecture, two: they're painted quickly and somewhat experimentally (for me) and three: the church of San. Domenico is peeking in on both paintings.
